Euro pallets are in circulation worldwide for the transport of goods. And with the goods on untreated pallets, pests are imported that can threaten entire ecosystems because no defence against these unknown invaders is possible.
For this reason, the UN organisation IPPCE (International Plant Protection Convention), with its ISPM 15 standard, ensures uniform protection measures worldwide against parasites and pests that could migrate with the wood. Since 2010, all manufacturers of EPAL pallets have been bound to comply with the ISPM 15 standard.
For the reliable elimination of all pests according to ISPM 15, the wood of Euro pallets must be heated to a core temperature of 56°C for at least thirty minutes. This procedure is documented by a visible brand on all EPAL pallets.

Euro pallets are consistently made from ecological materials.
Wood is almost exclusively used as a renewable raw material for production. Due to their long service life, Euro pallets prevent the release of 30 kg of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide per unit. The possibility of worldwide exchange creates a huge reusable system, which reinforces the ecological claim of Europallets.

The Euro pallet is the most important pooling system for load carriers. And since its foundation in 1991, EPAL has ensured the expansion and safeguarding of this globally established transport system.
To this end, EPAL grants licences to both producers and repair companies. For this purpose, careful inspections are carried out prior to the granting of a licence, which are continuously confirmed by external organisations. In this way, EPAL guarantees the consistently high quality of all the products it licenses.
But the organisation for Euro pallets is not satisfied with the mere administration of an established standard. In cooperation with market participants, existing solutions are continuously optimised and new products are devised to meet new global challenges.
Facts since the foundation of EPAL
For the exchange and use of Euro pallets, there is a non-binding application recommendation from the European Pallet Association.
This recommendation is intended to optimise the exchange and use of Euro pallets. However, in order for this recommendation to be applied, the companies involved in the exchange, purchase or delivery must agree on this bilaterally. In such a case, the quality classification supplements the applicable exchange conditions of the European Pallet Association and enables the parties involved to exchange only Euro pallets of a certain class.
If the quality classification is not agreed bilaterally, the exchange conditions apply without restriction to all Class A, B and C Europallets.

For 60 years, Euro pallets have celebrated one worldwide success after another. This truly global player was supported 30 years ago by EPAL Gitterbox.
Together, the two form a team that has become an indispensable part of national and international trade. More than 25 million Euro pallets and over 20 million EPAL skeleton containers form the backbone of worldwide transport chains and are firmly established in global trade.
Thanks to the worldwide spread of the system, the effort of reloading is now completely eliminated. Anyone who delivers a loaded EPAL pallet can be almost absolutely certain to receive an empty load carrier in exchange. EPAL supports all parties involved with practical recommendations for action to make the exchange even more efficient and the loading times even shorter.

The worldwide exchange pool of Euro pallets is subject to constant worldwide quality control by external testing companies commissioned by EPAL.
In this way, the organisation guarantees a consistently high quality of the pool of globally available load carriers. The testing companies commissioned include renowned companies such as CCIC (China Certification and Inspection Group) or Bureau Veritas.
The object of all inspections is the exact compliance with applicable repair and construction standards. The contracted companies work independently of EPAL. Inspections are always carried out without prior notice
